Tree care

Looking after your Christmas tree

Every customer gets these instructions by email as soon as they order, and again in the reminder we send on the Thursday before their delivery weekend.

  1. 1

When your tree is collected or delivered, we cut 2-3 cm from the base to help it hydrate.

  2. 2

If the tree is out of water for more than an hour, re-cut the base before putting it back in water.

  3. 3

Place the tree in water as soon as possible.

  4. 4

Your tree will drink a lot of water in the first 24 hours.

  5. 5

After that, the water generally needs topping up every 2-3 days, but check the level daily.

  6. 6

After removing the netting, let the tree naturally take shape. This can take a few hours; a few gentle shakes help.

  7. 7

If you bought tree preservative, add half when the tree first arrives and the second half after 48 hours.

  8. 8

Position the tree somewhere with no direct sunlight.

  9. 9

Don't position the tree near an air conditioner because it dries the needles out.

  10. 10

Trees naturally drop some needles. Vacuum them up, or put an old blanket under the tree to make cleaning easier.

  11. 11

There should always be water in the stand or bucket.

  12. 12

If the water ever runs completely dry, re-cut about 2 cm from the base before refilling. Otherwise, the tree can no longer absorb water.

Using tree preservative

Tree preservative helps keep your tree fresh and hydrated for longer. Add half to the water when the tree first arrives, and the remaining half after 48 hours. You can add a bottle to your order for $7.
